•    Always try to use same size boxes to pack things. This will help you in stacking them in storage units easily and they will fit in perfectly.
•    Try to avoid plastic bags if you are not using climatic controlled reserve storage. These bags tend to trap moisture and it can ruin the items which were stored in units for storage.
•    Fill each box completely so that the sides of these boxes don’t get crushed when you put them in storage unit. If you storing items like toys, glassware or something having odd shapes then try to fill them with bubble wrap, paper or any other packing material. This will ensure that they are kept safely in storage units.
•    Don’t full the boxes too full and leave some empty space. If you are not using temperature controlled reserved storage space then chances are there that heat might get trapped in units for storage and which can cause these boxes to burst. So to be on safer side, it is advised to leave some empty space.
•    Don’t make the boxes too heavy that you are not able to put them into storage units. The same applies when you are taking them out from storage box. This is very important as you can break the things as they can fall if they are too heavy for you to carry.
•    Prefer heavy duty storage box over standard boxes as they are able to face wear and tear which normally occurs in storage facility or during transport. Though you might have to pay a little extra for heavy duty units for storage but then the safety they gives is worth the investment.
•    If you putting books in boxes then make sure you are stacking them. If you make them stand then during the course of storage, you may damage their spines.
•    For plates, it is important that you stack them on end. It is important to wrap them individually with paper or bubble wrap so that they may stand any accidental fall.
•    Photographs, framed mirrors or any kind of art work should be stored vertically rather than horizontally.
